Mitt Romney makes it official - He's in for a 2012 White House bid
by Joseph Ernest June 2, 2011
Newscast Media HOUSTON, Texas -- It's official. Mitt Romney announced his 2012 White House bid in New Hampshire on Wednesday, and said his first priority will be improving the ailing US economy by making America the world's top job creator. "Barack Obama has failed America," Romney said, "When Barack Obama took office, the economy was in recession, and he made it worse." "This president's first answer to every problem is to take power from you. ... And with each of those decisions, we lose more of our freedoms," Romney said. "I'm Mitt Romney and I believe in America. And I'm running for president of the United States," Romney said to cheers on a sunny farm here in Southern New Hampshire. Coincidentally, Sarah Palin was also in New Hampshire on her "One Nation" bus tour. In regard to Mitt Romney's healthcare bill he signed into law that his opponents plan to use against him, Sarah Palin said, "He makes a good argument there that states' rights and authority and responsibility allowed in our states makes more sense than big centralized government telling us what to do," Palin said. "However, even on a state level and a local level, mandates coming from a governing body — it's tough for a lot of us independent Americans to accept because we have great faith in the private sector and our own families, and our own businessmen and — women making decision for ourselves, not any level of government telling us what to do." Romney does have the advantage that no other candidate has – the media wants him to be president and will probable run a favorable coverage for Romney.
Media's fascination with Romney He also has a proven track record of building businesses into multimillion entities, something Barack Obama lacked when he ran in 2008. Most importantly Romney is an effective fundraiser who recently raised over $10 million in 24 hours. His ground game and foot soldiers will serve him well, since he seems to be the most organized of all candidates. In 2008, Barack Obama relied on the group ACORN to help mobilize the grassroots. Romney has had over three years to build an infrastructure that will help him get out the vote. Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee who said he wouldn't run for the presidency, said he is having second thoughts and might change his mind. If Mike Huckabee does run, it is speculated that he would be running as a "spoiler" to derail Romney. One thing is for sure, the GOP seems to have already made up its mind that Mitt Romney is the man they would like to see nominated, to run against Obama.
