Bishop Eddie Long Denies Allegations Of Sexual Misconduct
by Joseph Ernest September 23, 2010
Newscast Media — There is no doubt that Bishop Eddie Long is one of the most prominent preachers in the black community, but now he is facing a battle to redeem his reputation and testimony in the wake of the sexual allegations from members of his congregation. The embattled preacher is being accused by two men who have alleged that they were sexually coerced by one of the most prominent Baptist pastors in the Atlanta area, Eddie Long. The suits were filed on Tuesday in DeKalb County, Georgia, and state that they were coerced by Long into performing a number of sexual acts. The suit said that Long made a habit out of selecting small groups of young male church members and using his authority over them to intimidate them into engaging in a sexual relationship. The above photos were obtained by the plaintiffs’ attorney B.J. Bernstein, and in them we can see Long wearing spandex and taking pictures of himself in the bathroom. Bernstein has added she has in her possession the text messages sent by Bishop Eddie Long. The pastor reportedly took Anthony Flagg, 21, with him on a number of overnight trips to different cities in the US. The two of them reportedly shared a bedroom on the trips and Long initiated sexual contact through coercion. The other plaintiff, Maurice Murray Robinson, 20, was taken to Auckland and New Zealand with the pastor for his 19th birthday. Long allegedly convinced the young man to engage in sexual acts with him as well during these trips. A spokesman for Long said that the allegations were not true, and that Long was upset that the boys would take this route in an attempt to receive money from him. “It is unfortunate that someone has taken this course of action,” said a spokesperson for Long. Long has yet to release a formal statement about the allegations against him, but representatives for Long have categorically denied the claims. Two other prominent preachers dealing with a sex scandal of their own are Benny Hinn and Paula White who have vehemently denied having an affair. On the other hand, Long’s attorney Craig Gillen said, “The photos don’t corroborate these charges. [Bishop Long] is a health advocate, he’s a weight lifter. He’s a fella, who’s gonna go to work and he’s gonna have on a muscle shirt. And you know he may show up in church in a muscle shirt. There’s nothing really in those photographs that seems to me corroborative of these allegations.” It makes one wonder why a prominent preacher like Long would risk ruining his reputation by taking photographs like these and sending them to young males.
