Newscast Media DAMASCUS, Syria—According to news reports from within Syria, Assad's military has now restored tranquility to the city of Aleppo in northern Syria.  Assad ordered his army to secure the city and flush out all the rebel gangs who form a contingent called the Free Syrian Army. In a three-day operation "Clean Sweep", the Syrian army embarked on the undertaking beginning Saturday July 28, and by Monday July 31, Aleppo was in control of the military.

There are still some pockets of resistance in the outskirts since the rebels were using innocent civilians as human shields.  The Syrian army therefore is cautious after this resounding victory, and continues to establish checkpoints in and around Aleppo, to facilitate completely flushing out of the terrorist gangs.

Turkish newspaper Idinik said U.S. Blackwater agents have been operating at the border area and that the firm's mercenaries are being deployed to Syria via the Turkish province of Hatay. (pop-up)

Rebels are chased to the Lebanese border

Securing Aleppo was not enough for the Syrian military.  Operation "Clean Sweep" called for cleansing Syria of the rebel gangs once and for all.  Graffiti was sprayed on the walls of damaged buildings to warn the rebel gangs about their impending doom. The graffiti read: "Flee. If you stay you will face humiliation".

Not wanting to face humiliation, the gang of rebels indeed took the warnings seriously and fled all the way North to the border. The rebels who did not take the warnings seriously were surrounded by the Syrian army on Wednesday, who then attacked a rebel-held school in Aleppo's Salahuddin district, which was being used as a command center, and heavy losses were inflicted upon the rebel gangs. A new rift among rebel groups emerges

Meanwhile in Cairo, a new rift among the rebels has emerged. A group called the Syrian Revolutionary board of trustees told reporters on Tuesday in Cairo that it has tasked veteran opposition activist Haytham al-Maleh with forming a transitional government in exile in Egypt. The group said that parts of Syria captured by opposition groups would be controlled by Maleh's government and that it will continue its work until the collapse of the government of President Bashar al-Assad and formation of a democratically-elected government.

The terrorist Free Syrian Army (FSA) and the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC) have both criticized the decision by the Syrian Revolutionary board of trustees.

While FSA leader Riad al-Asaad described the move as fueling the rift among the Syrian opposition, head of SNC Abdel Basset Sayda said "This step is unnecessary. We hoped that our brothers had discussed it with us beforehand".

The enemy within

To acknowledge the triumph of the military operation, Assad delivered a statement today which is the 67th anniversary of the Syrian military formation.

"The army is engaged in a crucial and heroic battle… on which the destiny of the nation and its people rests. The enemy is among us today, using agents to destabilize the country, the security of its citizens… They (the enemy) wanted to deprive the people of their national decision… but they were astonished to see these proud people, who confronted their plans and defeated them," the Syrian president stated.

"You men of the country… you have demonstrated, in dealing with the war waged against our country by the terrorist gangs, that you possess an iron will and a keen awareness."

Assad also pointed out that the Syrian "military remains the backbone of the motherland."
