Newscast Media NEWARK—Newark Mayor Cory Booker handily defeated his Republican opponent Steve Lonegan by 55 percent to 44 percent in a special senatorial election that will send the Democrat to Washington D.C. "If you voted for me, I will make you proud," he said. "If you didn't vote for me I will work every single day to earn your trust," Cory told his supporters at the victory speech. However, Booker will not be sworn in until later on this month because the election results still have to be certified by the state.

Booker earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Stanford, where he played for the Stanford football team. Booker then attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar where he ran a student tutoring and mentoring program in a disadvantaged community and served as president of the Oxford L'Chaim Society. Booker earned his juris doctor from Yale Law School. Booker will still have to run again next year in November 2014, to defend his seat. There is no doubt, Booker is being groomed for a presidential run by the Democrat party—most likely in 2020 or 2024. Add Comments>>
