Cosa Nostra mafia mobsters rounded up in biggest FBI sting
by Joseph Ernest January 20, 2011
Newscast Media -- The FBI conducted the biggest sting in New York history that targeted New York's five mafia crime families. Mobsters were arrested in New York City, New Jersey and New England during raids in the early hours of the morning on charges including murder, extortion and drug dealing. The raid was facilitated by "rats" within the mob after long investigations and infiltration of the mob. Cosa Nostra, which in Italian translates to 'this thing is ours', is a network of Italian-American families that have been based in and around New York for around a century. The network once infiltrated and controlled swathes of the US economy. The Cosa Nostra are still believed to have the upper hand in much organized crime in the area, particularly drug dealing, but ethnic-Russian, Mexican and Asian gangs have encroached on their territory in the past two decades and their aura of invincibility has long crumbled. Over 120 people were arrested in connection with organized crime. Add Comments>>
