UN memo: Syrian rebels plan chemical attack in Damascus

Newscast Media DAMASCUS—Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Jaafari has warned the Security Council of an impending chemical attack that a rebel group is planning to launch in Damascus.

The ambassador also said that the rebels were planning to attack Jawbar quarter and blame the chemical attack on the Syria's Bashar Assad.

Last summer, a chemical attack was carried out in northern Syria that Russian intelligence asserted was from the Syrian rebels. Shortly thereafter, the West threatened to retaliate, but aborted the plan after Russia intervened.
