Newscast Media NAIROBI, Kenya—A suspected terror attack on students at Garissa University College in eastern Kenya has risen dramatically according to Kenyan officials.

Kenya's national disaster response agency updated the death toll to almost 150 in a tweet as shown below:

The White House released the statement below condemning the Garissa attacks:

"The United States condemns in the strongest terms today’s terrorist attack against the innocent men and women of Garissa University College in eastern Kenya. We extend our deep condolences to the families and loved ones of all those killed in this heinous attack, which reportedly included the targeting of Christian students. Our thoughts and prayers also are with the many injured. The United States is providing assistance to the Kenyan Government, and we will continue to partner with them as well as with others in the region to take on the terrorist group al-Shabaab. The United States stands with the people of Kenya, who will not be intimidated by such cowardly attacks."

Unfortunately for Kenya, these attacks are likely to continue if Kenyans do not call out terrorists for who they are, and stop sugar-coating words or using euphimisms.

Rather than say, "147 deaths confirmed in Garissa attack.." the tweet reads: "147 fatalities..."

Look at the difference between America's statement and the Kenyan statement. The US doesn't mince words as shown in this extract: "...We extend our deep condolences to the families and loved ones of all those killed in this heinous attack..."

Softening words in order not to offend the perpetrators does nothing but embolden them, since their goal is to paralyze their victims fear, something they appear to have done to Kenyan officials as is evident with the weak language they are using to convey their messages.  Add Comments>>
