Several months after Hurricane Ike hit the Houston Galveston area, the recovery efforts were geared to restoring life back to where it was before the storm.  Some businesses in Galveston closed as a result and have never reopened, while others were able to rebuild and thrive again.

Newscast Media did a follow up almost a year after Ike and met with Leonor Rodriguez an 80-year old widow whose house was destroyed by the storm.  To her surprise, after the storm subsided, several businesses and volunteers rebuilt her house and refurnished it free of charge.  Explore the slideshow and see the aftermath of the hurricane as well as Leonor Rodriguez.
