GOP candidates await Iowa caucus outcome as voters decide by Joseph Earnest January 2, 2012
Newscast Media DES MOINES, Iowa — Within less than a day, the GOP presidential candidates' supporters in Iowa will get a chance to choose which candidate they believe effectively persuaded them that he or she was best deserving of their votes. The Iowa caucus will also have some uninvited guests, the Occupiers, who plan to descend upon caucus sites to create a ruckus and interfere with voting, and some are already wondering which political party or operative is behind the Occupy Wall Street movement, since the Occupiers are only targeting Republicans.
The candidates are: Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, Jon Huntsman, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.
Mitt Romney is currently in the lead, if we are to believe the polls, and is also ahead in New Hampshire by double digits. However, since voting is an emotional exercise, there could be some unexpected surprises or upsets, so we simply have to wait until all the votes are counted, to determine who the winner will be. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely GOP caucus participants finds Romney with 23% support to Paul's 22%. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum has moved into third place with 16%, his best showing to date, closely followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Governor Rick Perry who earn 13% of the vote each. This Iowa survey of 750 Likely Republican Caucus Participants was conducted on December 28, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. Add Comments>>
