Illegal Israeli organ-trafficking ring nabbed

Newscast Media --The Ukrainian police have diffused an Israeli-operated organ-trafficking network, that illegally recruited organ donors to send their body parts to Israel.
Ukrainian authorities said that 12 people, most of whom were Israelis were apprehended for engaging in a scheme to recruit organ donors from Ukraine and other former Soviet countries using the Web. The purpose of the recruits was to transplant their organs into Israelites who had pre-ordered them.
Kidneys were the most sought after organs, that brought in as much as $10,000 per body part, and according to Ukraine's interior ministry most of the organ donors were impoverished young women.
Yuri Kucher, the head if the ministry's department on human trafficking, said the transplant surgeries which cost up to $200,000 an operation were carried out in Kiev, Azerbaijan and Ecuador. According to preliminary investigations, the profited a total of approximately $18 million a year. The illegal network had been active for the past three years.
Those arrested could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of human trafficking. This is the recent of the many Israeli-involved organ scandals, which comes nearly four months after another organ trafficking ring was busted which offered $100,000 for kidneys in its local newspaper ads.
The organization then turned around and sold the kidneys for $140,000, leaving some of the donors empty handed and cashless after removing their victims kidneys in countries like Azerbijan and the Philippines. Add Comments>>
