Sports: Lionel Messi sets new record for goals scored in a season

Newscast Media BARCELONA, Spain—Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi who plays for Barcelona has broken the record for goals scored in a European club season, bringing his total to 68. The previous record of 67 was held by Germany's Gerd Müller who played for Bayern Munich.
In his day, Gerd Müller was referred to as "the bomber" because of his powerful shots that were capable of tearing through the net. Bayern Munich's greatest rival was Koln with star goalkeeper Harold "Toni" Schumacher who most players avoided approaching due to their fear of being fouled by the goalkeeper's rough-play.
Germany had incredible talent from the days of Sepp Maier, whose real name was Josef Maier but derived the "Sepp" from the Italian version of Josef which is Giuseppe. In the 80s the Germans were a formidable force with players like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Karlheinz Forster, Horst Hrubesch who scored more goals with his head than with his legs, Klaus Fischer, Pierre Littbarski, Lothar Matthäus, Rudi Voller and of course Schumacher. Most of these players are still alive and have been responsible for leading Germany to the finals more times than any other country.
Messi has the advantage of playing in the 21st-Century with modern technology to treat and heal injuries a lot faster than earlier times. The money is also very good which can motivate a player to aspire to great heights due to the high expectations of management and fans.
