Obama raises Hillary's profile to galvanize disgruntled Dems

barack obama

Barack Obama said there is only one candidate in this race who believes in that future, has devoted her life to that future; a mother and a grandmother who would do anything to help our children thrive; a leader with real plans to break down barriers, and blast through glass ceilings, and widen the circle of opportunity to every single American . That candidate, Obama believes, is Hillary Clinton

Newscast Media PHILADELPHIA—For Wednesday's list of guest speakers for the Democratic National Convention, Obama was main attraction who sought to rally Democrats behind Hillary Clinton.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg who once was a Republican, but is now an Independent, spoke last night an urged fellow Independents to vote for Hillary. Former San Francisco Mayor, who's speaking style and mannerisms are very much like Obama's also made a case for Hillary, so did Senator Harry Reid.

In his speech, Obama said in part, "...The America I know is full of courage, and optimism, and ingenuity.  The America I know is decent and generous.  (Applause.)  Sure, we have real anxieties -- about paying the bills, and protecting our kids, caring for a sick parent.  We get frustrated with political gridlock, and worry about racial divisions.  We are shocked and saddened by the madness of Orlando or Nice.  There are pockets of America that never recovered from factory closures; men who took pride in hard work and providing for their families who now feel forgotten; parents who wonder whether their kids will have the same opportunities that we had."

Below are some highlights of the many events that occurred on Wednesday night:

Senator Harry Reid stressed the importance of leadership during his speech as shown here: "Since my boxing days, I’ve fought my share of fights. In my 50 years of fighting for Nevadans, I’ve also realized a leader is actually a corner man: someone who stands on your side, who has your back in a fight. Middle-class families fighting to give your kids a better life – Democrats stand in your corner. Americans fighting for the equality and respect our nation promises you – we’re in your corner. New Americans risking everything to get here, and then fighting to make it here – we’re in your corner."

Nobody was as passionate as Vice President Joe Biden when he gave his speech yesterday, that has patriotic overtures: "We have the finest fighting force in the world. Not only do we have the largest economy in the world, we have the strongest economy in the world. We have the most productive workers in the world. And give it a fair shot. Given a fair chance. Americans have never, ever, ever, ever, ever let the country down. Never! We are America, second to none, and we own the finish line! Don't forget it! God bless you all and God protect our troops."Photo by Joseph Earnest.

Hillary Clinton's running mate Tim Kaine told the story of how he accomplished his dreams. He also made a pitch for Hillary, bearing in mind that Bernie Sanders still has a strong grip on a large percentage of young voters. "For all of us who know that the brightest future for our country is the one that we build together and for my friend Hillary Clinton, I humbly accept my party's nomination to be vice president of the United States," Kaine said, as he accepted the nomination to run as vice president for Hillary. Obama also said, "You know, nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the Oval Office.  You can read about it.  You can study it.  But until you’ve sat at that desk, you don’t know what it’s like to manage a global crisis, or send young people to war.  But Hillary has been in the room; she’s been part of those decisions." Photo by Joseph Earnest
