Qatar accused of bribing FIFA officials to host '22 World Cup

Newscast Media PARIS, France—Arab Emirate Qatar will soon be under investigation for allegedly bribing FIFA officials to allow it to host the 2022 World Cup. The Emirate is trying to recover from an image problem caused by accusations from foreign diplomats that it has interfered in the affairs of Libya, as reported by the Guardian, and according to the New York Times, the Syrian government has accused it of supporting terrorism in Syria.
Now, after more than two years after FIFA awarded the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, an influential French magazine, France Football is accusing the gulf kingdom of bribing its way to hosting the event.
The 15-page article published on Tuesday and titled "The Qatargate" revealed evidence pointing towards Qatar buying the right to host the 2022 World Cup.
The magazine claimed African Confederation President Issa Hayatou of Cameroon and Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast who both took part in the voting were accused of taking bribes by a former Qatari bid employee Phaedra Al Majid. (pop-up)
