Over one million vehicles recalled by Toyota for defects
by Joseph Ernest January 26, 2011
Newscast Media -- Over 1.7 million vehicles across the world are being recalled by Toyota for various defects that may result in fuel leakage. "This is the Japanese maker's biggest recall in six years for a single defect," said Shiori Hashimoto a spokeswoman for Toyota. Japan had the largest number of affected vehicles with nearly 1.3 million that had defects. It is yet to be seen how this recall will affect investors both domestically and internationally. The company is also recalling over 300,000 Lexus vehicles marketed overseas including over 240,000 sold in the U.S. due to trouble with a fuel-pressure sensor connected to an engine fuel delivery pipe. In two other filings on Wednesday, Toyota said it would recall about 75,000 Crown models and about 6,200 Townace vans in Japan to fix the same fault found in Lexus cars sold in the US and elsewhere. Toyota's Hashimoto declined to say how much the latest recalls would cost the company. In December, Toyota agreed to pay $32.4m in fines to the US government to settle the investigation into its handling of two recalls. Add Comments>>
